Cumaru is a stunning tropical hardwood that is ideal for external use due to its extreme stability and durability. It weathers well and is known for its strength and density. These reasons combined with high natural oil content means it is resistant to rot and pests, and will retain its good looks for many years.
Whilst wood is better for the environment than man-made materials, slow-growing Cumaru is not as sustainable as other timber choices such as Pine or Ash that come from temperate forests. For this reason, The Outdoor Deck Company always strives to source responsibly and offer FSC-certified products.
Weathering
Like any natural wood material, over time the surface will fade to a natural grey, a process which occurs when wood is exposed to sunlight.
Depending on the location of the site and the levels of UV it is subjected to, this process can be quickened or slowed and will begin from the moment of installation. Whilst the durability of the boards is not affected, maintenance treatments are available to maintain the deeper tones.
