In 1997, Kebony was created in Oslo, Norway with the intent of redefining the treated-timber industry. The new company began testing the technology, and by 2003, it was validated and a pilot production facility opened in Norway.
Kebony Pine is sourced and harvested from sustainably managed forests, all of which are FSC Certified.
Currently, Kebony enjoys international success as clients worldwide opt for sustainable solutions in their wood design ventures.
Process
The Kebony process takes existing softwoods and strengthens them as an alternative to tropical hardwoods.
With only a 30-year life cycle, Kebony trees provide a far greener alternative to hardwoods and their average 100 year maturity rate. Pine is also one of the fastest-growing trees in the world, further increasing their renewable credibility.
Weathering
Like any natural wood material, over time the surface will fade to a natural grey, a process which occurs when wood is exposed to sunlight.
Depending on the location of the site and the levels of UV it is subjected to, this process can be quickened or slowed and will begin from the moment of installation. Whilst the durability of the boards is not affected, maintenance treatments are available to maintain the deeper tones.
Characteristics
The products' contemporary, minimalist aesthetic receives admiration, and Kebony's durability ensures long-lasting installations that withstand the test of time.
Kebony offers good resistance to weather, wear and decay with low life-cycle costs, with a low carbon footprint.
Due to their colour changing over time, this product requires no form of maintenance beyond normal cleaning.
